While working at home might sound so wonderful, especially for people who may have previously experienced the conventional paid employment; staying and working from home are not without its challenges.
The mere fact that you are working from home comes with different distractions such as friends intruding into your work schedule for pep talks and visits, home duties and responsibilities as father, mother or spouse also cannot be overlooked. One other issue is that relaxed atmosphere at home encourages sluggishness if caution and discipline is not exercised.
Many activities going on in the home are definitely objects of distraction to your business and schedule. Your favourite daily/weekly television programme might conflict with your designated work time. Also, the kids might require you to hang out with them in the middle of a project. With all these, you have to be prepared to balance your work activities with the very essence of retaining your position in the society like a father, mother, spouse or friend.

Some solutions to these distractions can be achieved by:
1.   Arranging your schedule to achieve maximum productivity. This entails mapping out time for work so that it does not conflict with your schedule in the home as a parent or other duties you might find as an obligation.
2.    Setting your work hours is another important thing in the life of a stay at home worker. Without setting work hours, a Virtual Assistant might never have time to finish jobs on schedule. Setting work hours will always keep you in check so that you do not allow distractions in your work time. During those hours, interruptions from your family and friends should be kept at a minimum. Educating your family and friends about your designated hours of work will go a long way in making them understand how important those hours are to you.
3.   Avoiding other distractions: Answering of phones, responding to chats and answering the door bell has this disrupting effect on an individual which interrupts the flow of information or ideas and solution during work periods. This is particular with Virtual Assistants engaged in editing, copy writing and other works requiring serious concentration.
In conclusion, working from home is quite fulfilling to dedicated individuals, although distractions are major setback in the VA environment unlike traditional employees, it can be tackled by being dedicated and disciplined.
